CRECK Hardware constructing MK52m police unit at Msundwe
CRECK Hardware and General Suppliers and its subsidiary
companies – CK Ceramics and Shalom Schools – have embarked on a multimillion
and ambitious project to construct Msundwe Police Unit in the outskirts of
Lilongwe City.
The project, worth in excess of K52 million, is within the
corporate social responsibility programmes CRECK Hardware and General Suppliers
implements to give back to the Malawian community as a business entity.
The company’s Managing Director, Apostle Clifford Kawinga,
told Nyasa Times on Monday that his company received a request from the Malawi
Police Service, though the Office of the Inspector General, to help with the
construction of the Msundwe Police Unit.
“We received the request to help the police with the
construction of the Msundwe Police Unit since the old structure was burnt down
during the 2019 electoral results protests,” said Kawinga, adding that as a
socially responsible company, they noted that the construction of the police
unit at Msundwe was worthwhile, as it would enhance security to citizens in and
around Msundwe.
“We are now constructing a complete new structure that is
very big. It is as big and 10meters by 26 meters structure worth in excess of
K52.”
Kawinga stated that the new structure will include all the
required offices at a police station including two contemporary cells.
“CRECK, as a Malawian bred corporate, believes that we have
a responsibility to contribute to the Malawi development agenda hence our
involvement in a number of Corporate Social Responsibility projects. It is very
unfortunate that mostly corporate social responsibility is often times left to
multinational companies than local firms,” he narrated.
Kawinga has since called on local firms to embrace the
concept of corporate social responsibility so that they join the development
agenda of Malawi .Chairperson of Msundwe Community Policing Forum, John
Patrick, hailed Kawinga for the support to Msundwe.
“Our area is fragile and sensitive to crime and security; we
are grateful to Apostle. Kawinga for embarking on this construction project.
The presence of a police station is an assurance that people will be helped and
their goods, property and life will be secured,” said Patrick.
CRECK Hardware is also extending and renovating some
structures at Mchinji Police Station following a request by the Mchinji Police
Station.
Recently, during the citizen initiative on Covid-19
fundraising led by Onjezani Kenani, Kawinga donated MK10 million on top of the
donation of preventive materials to over 10, 000 people in selected district
through Salvation for All Ministry where is the founder.
